In my book, there are but a handful of truly mind blowing places to eat breakfast in the City of Salt. Lucky for you, dear friends, here I offer up two of the best opportunities for gastronomical excellence in the valley. Both offer grub that'll stick to your ribs and your memory:
Ah, the many mornings spent at George's Cafe (known to some as Dimitri's)...barely making the noon closing time to enjoy the famous Roundhouse Special, the perfect pile of hash browns, ham, sausage, bacon, eggs (better get them over-easy), and cheese served with your choice of toast. Some have even tempted the fates with the Roundhouse and 1/2, a dish with enough food mass to feed a small Eskimo village. Just to find this tucked-away hot spot is as much of a rite of passage as surviving your first semester of college; much like the passing of ancient tales of yore, the location has been passed down by word of mouth from starving student to student, perpetuating the greatness throughout the generations. I now pass this secret on to you: 1060 E. 100 S. Enjoy.
Another epic establishment you're sure to enjoy is Ruth's Diner, located a short drive up scenic Emigration Canyon. Always worth the wait (there's often a line since they don't take reservations) and open long past breakfast hours, Ruth's is a great choice for any meal. Housed in a converted trolley car with great patio seating out back, Ruth's offers the best of the best in terms of comfort food; homemade breakfast favorites such as eggs benedict and breakfast burritos as well as rich and decadent desserts (just half of the hot fudge brownie slipped me into a sugar coma alone.) Sip a mimosa or a local brew while enjoying the unique atmosphere and trying to recount the previous evening's events. Don't skip the biscuits...empty carbs at their best!

Another great place to eat in the downtown area, is the Oasis Cafe. Whether eating on the patio, or perusing the books in the adjoining bookstore, I find great enjoyment there.
Both out-of-towners and townies alike should grab a bite to eat at the Manford A. Shaw Center. It's fantastic! Address is 1840 South 1300 East.
