Five Months.

I'm late on Avie's five month update, but wanted to be sure to write a few notes on the last month before they slip for good into my ever-failing memory.

Last month we,
  • Left you with a sitter for the first time. She is lovely and dotes on you like you wouldn't believe. Sadly, you don't return the favor quite as heartily as we hoped. Wicked case of the separation anxiety. For both you and mama. Rough stuff.
  • Visited the zoo! You liked the bears and the birds. (I think there's a song in that.) Then you had enough sight-seeing and took an epic nap.
  • Took lots of rain walks with mama. You're a true Oregonian, Aves. Rain? No sweat. But sun!? "What the heck is that in my eyes!? Get it out!"
  • Tested out the "big girl" five-point harness seat in the stroller for the first time. Though it gave you a choice view of the birds in our neighborhood field, you'd had enough of it by the time we crossed our street. Hypothesis stands: you hate five-point harnesses.
  • On that note, you continue to make every car ride a...oh, how shall we say it...anxiety-provoking-PTSD-inducing-dreaded challenge. I've just about dislocated my right shoulder shaking toys for you. My vocal chords are strained from singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on repeat." Planes are fine. Trains are fine. But we'll steer clear of those blasted automobiles as much as we can until this phase has passed, thanks.
  • You found your toes! And watching you try to get them into your mouth is the best entertainment.
  • I foresee many notes from your teachers commenting on what a chatterbox you are. You sing all day long. Especially when you want to go to sleep. It's lovely.
  • Night sleep is hit and miss. Some nights you fall into slumber easily, some nights we bounce on the ball counting millions of sheep until you finally find sleep. You've become good about taking naps in the carrier though, which has freed my hands in fits and starts (enough to write this blog post, in fact!)
  • You continue to light up our world like nothing else. It's true what they say. This whole 'having a baby' gig just keeps getting better. Love you, sweet cheeks.

I just had the most emotional moment thinking about all the conversations our girls will have as they grow older.

I tend to try and focus on where Rosie is now rather than ponder the gravity of future milestones, but how fun will it be when they start talking to each other instead of babbling into space?

As always, beautiful photos!

Miss Avie - I love watching you grow! If you figure out the sleep thing, will you please pass along the secret?

You're such a great mom Cecily!
